fishing at Juneau-Simard's |
|
The Juneau-Simard fishing outfit was founded by two
'peradians' who
belong to a three-generation tradition of ice-fishing here in Ste-Anne .Here are
a few fishing tips from
them.

|
|
The tommy cod (called 'poulamon'
-pronounced 'poolamon'- here)
lives from 3 to 8 years, produces approximately 8600 eggs per lay, and weighs 45 gr in
average; the male's lenght is in average 150 mm, the female 180. It
roams the west coast of the Atlantic, from Labrador to Virginia, and
takes to many rivers to lay eggs. Drawing above is about 1/3 of actual
size. |

In every cabin there's a
wooden pole, over the fishing hole, to which are attached several fishing
lines. To each line is anchored a weight and two hooks. The weight must
be at the right distance from the bottom .
Just follow these simple instructions : |
- let the weight fall to the bottom
- raise the fishing line about half an inch from the
bottom
- only the hooks, then, will rest at the
bottom
- the bait (small cubes of bloody
pork liver or raw shrimps) must hide the hooks.
- repeat this operation often

Keep your catch fresh
by letting it freeze outside the door of your cabin; that way its flavour will be preserved. |
